Gay – in the 1828 version of the Websters Dictionary means: “merri; airy; jovial; sportive; frolicksome.”
Gayety, “merriment; mirth; airiness.”

The word gay does NOT mean homosexual, buggery, sodomite, sexual deviant, or pervert!
The word “homosexual” is NOT in the 1828 Websters Dictionary!
Sodomite/sodomy mean ” guilty of sodomy; a crime against nature.”
Bugger/buggery mean “one guilty of THE crime against nature. A vile wretch; a term of reproach.” (Emphasis added) “The unnatural and detestable crime of carnal intercourse of man or woman with a beast; or of human beings unnaturally with each other.” (Emphasis added)
